Highlights from 2024 NEI Congress: The Glu Holding Things Together: Glutamatergic Modulation for Psychiatric Disorders
Friday, November 8, 2024
The science behind the role of glutamatergic neurotransmissions role in a variety of psychiatric disorders has expanded significantly such that there are many new pharmacotherapies being developed that target glutamate. These new pharmacotherapies are being developed to treat depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and cognitive impairments associated with schizophrenia. In this fascinating lecture, Dr. Stephen Stahl began by detailing the glutamatergic pathways that these new drugs target, as well as explaining their mechanism of action, before reviewing the current clinical trial landscape of these drugs. Overall, this talk provided a detailed approach on how to think about the neuropharmacology behind glutamate and its role in a variety of mental health disorders.
The recording of this presentation, as well as all of the presentations from 2024 NEI Fall Congress, will be made available on the NEI website as Encore Presentations for NEI Members.
