September is National Suicide Prevention Month, and World Suicide Prevention Day is an awareness day observed on September 10th every year, in order to provide worldwide commitment and action to prevent suicide. Education matters for suicide prevention. When community members share basic common knowledge about a health issue, stigma is reduced and family members, schools, and workplaces are able to apply that knowledge to their daily lives and work in several ways: to build healthier families and communities, to recognize risk when present, and to lead at-risk individuals to seek medical/professional evaluation and treatment. National and regional suicide prevention programs have proven effective in addressing culture, stigma, help-seeking, and suicide rates. Let's keep increasing education and spreading awareness!
